Microdermabrasion is a very popular skin resurfacing procedure that does not require surgery, but is not fully free of risks or side effects. The most common appear on the face and include redness, dry skin, itching and flaking. The symptoms of side effects are very similar to those of sun burn and usually fade away in a day. Side effects associated with the procedure are mainly due to the sensitive skin that a patient has. Once again, I went to the trusty Internet and discovered that the answer is yes! Microdermabrasion can give your whole body that healthy glow that your face gets after treatments. But it can also work on specific problem areas, too, like stretch marks (yuck). Even though these nasty things are hard to get rid of with any kind of treatment, apparently the minor (and planned) irritation that microdermabrasion causes can encourage the production of enough new collagen to eventually fade those little annoyances. As far as home kits for the body, not very many manufacturers of microdermabrasion systems make them. One of the few home kits for the body is the Dermanew Body system. The cream that is used contains aspirin, which can counteract any inflammation that the other ingredients might cause.
