There are quite a few home microdermabrasion kits on the market. Most of them are meant to do the same job of professional microdermabrasion treatments, which includes resurfacing the texture of the skin, triggering the generation of new skin cells, and lessening the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and brown spots caused by the sun.

The Olay Regenerist Microdermabrasion & Peel system is different from most of these systems in that it does not have an applicator to apply the exfoliant cream and the crystals in the cream are quite a bit softer than the crystals in most home kits. This makes the overall results a little less noticeable, but there is less of a chance for bad reactions on people with sensitive skin.

The kit comes with the Derma-Crystals Microdermabrasion Cream and a Peel Activator serum. Rather than using a resurfacing tool to apply the crystallized cream, you apply this cream by massaging it onto your face with your fingertips in circular motions. Massage for one to two minutes and then over the top of this apply the activator serum to begin the peel process. The activator serum helps to activate and then dissolve the crystals from the microdermabrasion cream and it also acts as a skin peel. As you massage this onto your face, it produces a foam. You will also notice a warming effect. After one minute, wipe your face clean with a warm washcloth.

Many reviewers said they liked the Olay kit because of how soft their face feels after wards, but that it has nowhere near the results of professional treatments or some of the other home kits. Most said they saw smoother and brighter skin but didn’t really notice wrinkles lessening or their age spots going away. The Olay kit runs around $24, making it one of the more reasonably priced home kits.
