Trial and Error When Using Home Microdermabrasion Kits – Part 4
While home microdermabrasion kits can produce some amazing transformations of your skin, there are some people who should never use it or should not use it at certain times. Here are some important things to know about when microdermabrasion should be avoided.
1. Women who are pregnant or nursing and teenagers under 14 years old should not use microdermabrasion, whether it is a professional treatment or with a home kit. In all of these cases, a woman’s hormones are going through drastic changes. These changes make the skin more sensitive and microdermabrasion can cause some bad reactions like irritated skin, breakouts, dryness, and itchy skin. These changes in hormone levels can also slow down how the skin recovers from microdermabrasion. This means it would be longer before the new skin cells show up.
2. If you have had serious acne problems and have been using the drug Accutane, you should never use a home kit or have a professional treatment. This is a very potent drug and one of the things it does it make the skin much more sensitive. You need to wait at least 6 months to a year after taking your last dose of Accutane before trying microdermabrasion.
3. Doctors advise against microdermabrasion for anyone with keratosis, lesions where the cause has not been diagnosed, serious cases of acne, and rosacea. Also, people with health issues like diabetes, lupus, eczema, dermatitis, or psoriasis should not use a microdermabrasion home kit.
Simply put, the best candidates for microdermabrasion are people with blotchy skin, mild acne, faint scarring, pores that are enlarged, fine wrinkles, and skin damaged by the sun who don’t fall into any of the three categories mentioned here.
