Does Microdermabrasion Really Work for Acne?

If you have dealt with acne for too long like I did, you know how hard it is to find a treatment that really works like commercials claim. Supposedly, using a good cleanser does the trick by removing all of the oil and dirt that causes the pimples. I haven’t come across that miracle cleanser yet.

I have, however, made a great discovery. In my quest to try anything till I found something that worked on my mild, but persistent acne, I discovered microdermabrasion treatments. Just like the name sounds, these treatments use a gentle skin abrasion technique combined with suction to get those nasty plugs of dirt out of your pores. The process does remove a tiny layer of skin, but those skin cells are dead. That’s why, even though the term “abrasion” sounds a little threatening, there is no damage done to your skin. With each layer of dead skin that is removed, your skin can literally breathe better.

You can get microdermabrasion acne treatments from a dermatologist. They use either crystals or a wand to abrade the skin and a vacuum removes the dead skin cells and dirt that have been clogging your pores and making blackheads and pimples. The crystals that they use are antibacterial so they are killing bacteria while they exfoliate. It takes several treatments before you begin to see an improvement, but in the meantime, you’ll have fewer breakouts and blackheads.

After my first few treatments, I began to hear about home microdermabrasion kits that would work on mild acne like mine. I definitely wanted to check into these, because, despite the fact that the treatments were working, I wanted to save a little money. There are a variety of these kits out there, some more expensive than others and some that work better than others. I settled on one called DermaNew largely because it uses the same quality crystals that the dermatologists use; in other words, no irritation. After a few treatments at home with my DermaNew, I saw even more improvement in the appearance of my acne, and I was saving money.
