Find Out How To Pick Out The Home Microdermabrasion Kit That Is Right For You

The Difference Between Home Microdermabrasion Systems

I’ve had some friends ask me about home microdermabrasion systems and what I recommend. I’m not an expert, but have purchased three different home systems before I found the one I really liked. I started with just about the cheapest and worked my way up to one that is a little more expensive, but also provides results that are closer to a professional microdermabrasion treatment. My first purchase was done without much research, but since then I have done some reading on the products that are out there. Of course, just about every manufacturer claims that theirs is the best, so don’t read the manufacturers websites except to find out the basics. I relied on reviews that I found on the web.

I figured out that there are four different levels of microdermabrasion systems.

  • There are those that can improve the overall look of your complexion. These are probably the least effective in that all they do is make dull skin look not look so blotchy. Companies like Loreal and Clinique make these and they run from $20-$75.
  • Maybe one step above these are systems that can do a better “peel”, which means they can also clean the pores pretty well, as well as reduce the size of the pores. You can get these anywhere from $45 to $85 from beauty companies like Estee Lauder and Mary Kay.
  • Systems that are step above these two are designed to work on skin tone and can help reduce age and sun spots, as well as accomplish what the first two types can do. Ponds and Neutrogena make systems like this and you can actually get them for between $14 and $75.
  • The “big boys” of home microdermabrasion can do it all and are about as close to a professional treatment as you can get, including working on the minor acne scars. Prices top out at about $130. My favorite in this group is the one I ended up with, Dermanew.
